If St. Peter were a Head Teacher

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven’s door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp–
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbour
Who never said anything nice.

Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, “What’s the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How’d all these sinners get up here?
God must’ve made a mistake.

“And why’s everyone so quiet,
So somber – give me a clue.”
“Hush, child,” He said, “they’re all in shock.
No one thought they’d be seeing you.”

The first day of March is always an important event in the life of our Church; it is, of course, Saint David’s Day. We were fortunate that this year the date fell on a Sunday which afforded us the opportunity to celebrate both in the service and afterward.

The morning Eucharist had a distinctly Welsh theme. The hymns were sung to stirring Welsh tunes and our preacher was the Reverend Canon Geoffrey Davies.  Geoffrey has spent many years ministering in Wales and is well known to a number of Welsh congregations in our city.

Afterward we held a ‘pot luck’ lunch where members of the congregation has contributed items which we pooled together. There was leek and potato soup with rolls for starters followed by the likes of , beef, ham and savouries plus all the trimmings. To finish there was plenty of cake to go round and with suspension of lent for the day most of it was soon gone.

Who Was St.David?

There are lots of stories, some rather fanciful. but of the following we can be sure.

Saint David, or Dewi Sant, as he is known in the Welsh language, is the patron saint of Wales. He was a Celtic monk, abbot and bishop, who lived in the sixth century.

During his life, he was the archbishop of Wales, and he was one of many early saints who helped to spread Christianity among the pagan Celtic tribes of western Britain

Online community set up to mark season of prayer, reflection and action

Into Social Networking? ‘Like Facebook? Feel you would like to do something for Lent? Then read on

What are you doing?’ asks the Church of England this Lent as it connects with people through the social networking site Twitter and a new Facebook application designed to get people to share their top tips for helping each other. The initiatives are designed to mobilise a viral movement marking Lent with simple acts of generosity and thoughtfulness in the real world. 

The new online tools will help users share daily suggestions and encouragement for small actions they can take to do something positive for their friends, neighbours or wider local community, as part of the popular Love Life Live Lent campaign that has captured the imagination of more than a quarter of million people over the past two years.

In 2007, more than 130,000 people joined in with Love Life Live Lent, many of whom opted to receive the daily suggested acts of service by text message. Last year, the suggested actions were available through social networking sites including Facebook and MySpace.

However, not  everyone was playing . There was a whole team slaving away in the kitchen to make sure that come the break we were amply served with burgers and bacon butties.  In fact we were so well served that, despite the queues during the break there was still an ample supply on sale once the second round of games had started.

All in all, everyone had a very enjoyable evening as the pictures show. I’ll not go on to explain the one where people have their hands on their heads. If you want to know you will have to ask someone who was there
